gundam wing
Song Lyrics
It's here! The authors' weblog for Sainan no Kekka, so you guys can see what we're working when the world of SnK is hiding behind the webpage during the week.
Just what you always wanted, right?
For those of you visiting for the first time, Sainan no Kekka is a fanfiction sequel to the anime Gundam Wing. SnK, as it's commonly abbreviated, discards the "canon" OVA sequel Endless Waltz and instead explores an alternate possibility. What if the identity of the Gundam pilots was found out by the general public two years after the war ended? What consequences would this have on the pilots? On the people who considered them to be friends? On the newly developed World Nation and Preventers military organization?
Sainan no Kekka is located at midnight revolution.org/gundam. We also are mirrored at Gundam Wing Addiction. We update every Saturday with a new part of the story. If you're interested, please drop by! If you're a returning reader, we hope this blog gives you something to laugh at, ponder, or just read when you're bored.

THIS BLOG CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR SAINAN NO KEKKA UP TO THE LAST RELEASED PART OR ACT ON THE WEBPAGE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! *EVIL LAUGHTER*
transmission :: editing and other stuff

Long time no see!
We neglected to update this blog at the end of Act 13, so here's just a note to say that Act 13.3 was posted back in March or so and the final mission logs were posted in August, so SnK is officially COMPLETE.
Yay!
I'm going back and doing some heavy-duty editing and overhaul of some of the sidestories. Look for some new sides soon, as well as the zip files of the Rebirth Arc up.
Thanks to everyone, again, for reading!

Just an update to let you know 13.2 has FINALLY been posted on the page. No promises for 13.3. There's one section complete so far, with 2 in the works and 2 unwritten. This last section is 5 parts, one for each of the pilots.

QS has complete 2 out of her 3 scenes for 13.2 and both of mine are done. I'm not sure what kind of timeline she has for her last one, but hopefully we can get this posted around the end of March/beginning of April.
In the meantime, here's a teaser:
She had lost track of days, the days merging into an endless cycle of monotone. She imagined that about six weeks had gone by, but she wasn't sure. There was no way she could know. It was disconcerting to watch time slip away from her, but she was starting not to care.
When she slept, she dreamt of Wufei screaming her name, a desperate sound of friendship and despair. She heard Duo contradicting her as she imagined the faces of those who had died when the missile struck L1. The true punishment, she decided, wasn't the loss of her freedom so much as being left to her thoughts.
Occasionally she would rise to her feet, stretching slowly as she worked out in her cramped living area. The twenty minutes of "leisure" she was allotted was an uncomfortable thing, caged in a narrow courtyard barely twice the size of her cell. Usually she'd just stare up through the chicken-wire, dreaming of the blue sky she could see just beyond it. She knew, intellectually, that she should move her body to remain fit and avoid the depression of the institutionalized, but she couldn't bring herself to find the energy.
There was the sound of two sets of footsteps coming down the hall, and she wondered which inmate was being sought. It was too late for lunch and too early for dinner, and they all had already had their outside time earlier that day. Perhaps a lawyer or a lover was stopping in.
She was mildly interested when they stopped in front of her cell, and she heard the sound of the gate opening. A female guard dressed in the crisp uniform of an enlisted person stepped into her cage.
"You have a visitor," she said.

midnightrevolution.org is currently down. We were due for renewal of the site and for some reason the DNS servers aren't updating. I'm not sure when it'll be back up, but don't worry, we know about the problem. ^^

Hello all!
I don't have a post date for 13.2 yet, but I'll be pessimistic and say sometime in March. Hopefully. XD I have 1 section done and QS told me she has 2,000 words of one of hers (she has 3, I have 2).
Teaser for your appetite:
Une was there at the end of the ramp to meet him. The airfield was still under construction, smelling of fresh paint and concrete and sparkling with all the newness of a modern military building. "We've a bit to do before the school officially opens," Une told him after a short greeting, but he'd expected that from her. "Word has gotten out, though. Apparently we'll have almost 90% enrollment for the first term."
He'd raised an eyebrow as they left the terminal and crossed the flat, white pavement to the staff car that waited for them. "How did you manage that?" he asked. "I would think that the recent war would have scared everyone off."
They slid into the leather backseat and Une smiled wryly. "But that's just the thing. Noin Academy isn't a military academy. It's an academy for everyone who wants to come and learn. Students may choose to go into the Preventers after graduation, and perhaps most of them will. But that isn't mandatory."
"Still full of new ideas, I see," he murmured with a smile, and Une looked at him fiercely.
"I built the Preventers for Treize. But those days are over. I've carried on Treize's legacy as best as I can, and it's up to Peacecraft now to take that where he will. He'll do a better job, anyway. I was simply Treize's follower, not Treize's friend."
More to come! Hopefully everyone also knows that QS and I both keep writing Livejournals, so you can go and see what we're up to besides SnK. QS is Aishuu and I'm Seraphitus.
this message from gerald!!@08:04 p.m. transmission :: Sally in 12.3
date :: Sunday, January 16, 2005
13.1 is posted.
I promised a while back that I would come back and talk about 12.3 after I put up a new layout for the blog. It's been about two months since then, but better late than never, I suppose.
12.3 was written entirely by me. The reasons were rather myriad: first, QS wasn't around a lot and I wanted to have some kind of set schedule. Secondly, QS and I had broken down 12.3 into very defined character arcs. Hers was the Quatre/Dorothy/Li storyline, and mine was the Sally/Heero/Zechs/Wufei battle storyline. As you know, Li was defeated in 12.2, which ended QS' storyline.
At any rate, I wound up writing most of 12.3 in one fell swoop over a weekend, and I'm amazed that I'm still alive to tell the tale. Most of the first scene had been completed a few weeks prior, but the rest of it (about 20,000 words) was written over a span of two days where I did nothing bu sit and stare at my computer monitor and take occasional breaks to eat, shower, and sleep.
We received a very thoughtful email from a reader about a month ago asking the question: "Why not kill Sally?" She was questioning the relative intelligence of letting someone like Sally have free rein, trying to persuade her with words rather than weapons. Sally, on the other hand, has no qualms about using said weapons against the Preventers and the pilots, and she does so. Is it really wise then, for Heero and Zechs and Une and Wufei and Trowa to sit there and philosophize about how killing Sally is wrong?
My reasoning for this is: perhaps not in the real world, but in Gundam Wing, yes it is. Looking at the original series, I've always had the impression that GW is an anime series about the philosophy of war and destruction more than a series about war itself. The main characters spend much more time making grand speeches about ideals than actually trying to blow each other up, and if you think about it, not one of the main characters was killed directly by another main character. The only exception is Treize, for obvious reasons for the plot.
I had no intention of making Sally into another Treize, and that would have been a bit dumb anyway. Sally is no Treize - Treize was one of those larger than life characters who, in the end, you can't quite bring yourself to hate even though you know that he was wrong. That's the dilemma I wanted to bring to 12.3. The characters of SnK realize that Treize had been wrong. Etille says as much at the end of 12.1: "Treize had not been perfect, nor had he been God. They all knew that. But he had at least been on the right road, had seen a vision of what could have been, and somehow, muddling through the dark tunnel into which he had pointed them, they would all someday emerge into the light." That's a big part of the reason why Sally's reasoning strikes that chord of doubt within them, and they know it. Treize WASN'T right. He was wrong about a lot of things - about war, about people, even about soldiers, and that's why he had to die.
But the flip side to that story is that Treize, through his wrongness, carried a vision of what COULD be, and that is what the world of GW fell in love with. A large part of SnK, in a sense, is spent trying to sort through Treize's character and to separate the vision and idealism from the sheer fact that what Treize tried to do didn't accomplished much in the end. (however you want to look at it, the end of GW wasn't really about Treize, but boiled down to Heero.)
The main point of Sally's rebellion is to establish a few things:
1. The war didn't end with Treize. That's pretty much obvious from the whole theme of the fic from Act 0 all the way till now. "The war is just beginning." Even with Treize dead, war didn't stop.
2. War changes when you fight against a friend. In the series, the only "friend turned enemy" relationship was Zechs and Treize. QS and I wanted to take a character that was relatively liked by everyone in the GW universe and turn her into someone who had her own agenda. I think that our characters reacted very realistically. Sally's rebellion lasted about a month. It's very hard to go from the mindset of Sally being a trusted friend to hated enemy in that span of time.
3. Trowa, Etille, and Wufei's views of war. In my opinion, those three SnK characters are the ones whose worlds are changed most by Sally's rebellion. Etille finds the meaning he's been searching for when he finally understands what Treize was trying to do. Wufei comes to terms with Treize's death by confronting Sally. And Trowa...the point at long last that I was trying to make with him is that war is never black and white.
I think Sally is a character who is mostly neglected by the GW fandom, and who is portrayed too often as someone nice and giving and willing to go to great lengths to help her friends. That's all true, but what's left out of that picture is that she'll do anything to achieve her ends. There's multiple examples of that in the series where she willingly goes in and destroys things or risks her own life and limb all to get what she wants, and she doesn't care who it hurts. It's a good thing she was on the side of the pilots in the end, because she could have done a lot of damage otherwise.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy 13.1. As QS and I said before, this is an epilogue in the spirit of Act 0. I suggest you go back and read Act 0 in conjunction with 13, as a lot of the themes and quotes from 0 are revisited in 13.
